Movement Analysis
There are two options to analyse your movement capabilities prior to starting gym-based training, depending on your individual lifestyle, ability and objectives. The suitability for each movement analysis will be discussed and agreed upon.
Standard Assessment
This will assess your ability to perform four main exercises which encompass virtually all everyday physical activities and athletic movements. Evaluating them will enable us to quickly gauge overall movement competency, muscular balance, and structural integrity of each area that is assessed. This will help to identify major mechanical restrictions and correct movement flaws by building a safe and efficient foundation for training.
Details
Squat – Tests lower-body strength, core stability, and deep flexion in the hips, knees, and ankles.
Hinge – Focuses on hip-dominant mechanics, testing hamstring flexibility, glute activation, and lower-back endurance.
Push – Evaluates upper-body pushing power and shoulder stability, typically observed in horizontal or vertical pressing motions.
Pull – Assesses upper-back strength, grip, and scapular control, mirroring actions like pulling objects toward the body or lifting yourself up.
Functional Movement Screen
Designed to identify functional limitations, imbalances, and asymmetries in basic movements, especially between the left and right sides of the body, this helps to assess injury risk and guide the development of corrective exercise programs. It will analyse basic movement patterns that require a combination of mobility (range of motion) and stability (motor control), rather than testing isolated muscular strength or endurance.
Details
Deep Squat – Tests total-body mechanics, core stability, and mobility in the hips, knees, and ankles.
Hurdle Step – Evaluates balance, stability, and coordination while stepping over an obstacle, challenging single-leg stability.
In-Line Lunge – Assesses trunk stability, balance, and lower-body mobility in a split-stance position.
Shoulder Mobility – Measures the range of motion of both shoulders, combining internal and external rotation.
Active Straight Leg Raise – Tests the flexibility of the hamstrings and calves while maintaining core stability and hip mobility on the opposite leg.
Trunk Stability Push Up – Evaluates upper-body core strength and stability in a push-up position while maintaining a straight spine.
Rotational Stability – Assesses multi-plane stability and weight-transfer mechanics during a crawling movement pattern.
